Ligia Dias

miart, Milano - Booth E43
Preview by invitation

We are delighted to welcome you to our booth E43 during miart 2025 in Milano.

Our booth is presenting a brand new body of work by Ligia Dias (*1974). The artist explores the question of making and its consequences. The use of standard and found objects, the appropriation of craft techniques juxtaposed with precious materials create disruptive contrasts that challenge our reading of convention.

Ligia Dias (*1974) explores the question of making and its consequences, whether in the form of artefacts or feelings. Her sculptures and installations invite a physical and introspective experience. The use of standards and found objects, the appropriation of craft techniques that she does not attempt to master juxtaposed with precious materials or those that symbolize them, create disruptive contrasts that challenge our reading of convention.

For miart 2025 Dias is presenting a new series of works. MIKE (Memory Ware) 4 (2025), MIKE (Memory Ware) 5 (2025) and Le Paradis (2025) are made of found materials, leftovers from her own jewelry production and everyday objects. Le Paradis is a hanging sculpture consisting of a heavy steel chain with objects such as car rear-view mirrors, a Fabergé-style ostrich egg and silver spoons, among many others. Another work based on a familiar object, Tendrement (2025) - a mirror covered with anodized aluminum chains - invites us to look beyond what is shown and more specifically, questions the notion of identity and reciprocity. Sentiments, 2025 is a take on Dias’ jewelry works and the use of ropes and pearls. For example, one of her very first jewelry, Pendu (2005), consists of a cotton rope closed with a slipknot, on which a row of pearls was embroidered.
