Giovanni Pizzo
Lovay Fine Arts is delighted to present ten historical works by italian artist Giovanni Pizzo (1934–2022).
In the early 1960’s, Giovanni Pizzo and his wife Lucia di Luciano were prominent figures in the geometrical abstract art group known as Arte Programmata. This was an innovative movement inspired by the first cybernetic theories. Along with other artists and musicians, they used algorithms to generate both musical and pictorial compositions.
The works presented belong to the Sign-Gestalt series, made in 1962. In this group of works the artist starts from a basic module (Sign-Gestalt), that functions as the primary element of a code. He articulates this module in the painting space according to rhythmic progressions and structures. This modular dynamic creates serial compositions with a sense of rhythm and musicality.
These works have not been shown for over 40 years, and come directly from the artist’s Estate. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Archivio di Luciano Pizzo in Rome.
